I, Arindam Dutta was born and brought up in a middle class family of North Kolkata. From my childhood days I have sensed the blend of discipline with sophistication and simplicity. The subjects of my paintings have taken their forms through the continuous evaluation of my family and my surroundings. I have tried to express the emotions – happiness, joy, sorrow and pain through my paintings. The feelings and different incidents of my childhood, such as, a boy sailing paper boats onto the muddy water of the flooded street, a child playing with a yo-yo or a catapult, tip-cat or wheel has become the subjects of my “Childhood” series. Similarly each and every movement of human beings (or animals) and the different types of relationships have taken their forms though my brushes and colours. The hawkers of North Kolkata, the bird seller, the Dhunuriwala have become alive through my imagination and creation. The medium of my painting is dust colour with tempera. I become nostalgic when the images emerge through the light and shade, layers of colours-that I put one after another, the texture, the strokes of my brush gives my visualization a fantastic form, creates a dramatic situation – that is my creation – my passion- my painting.
